Description
The ATEM Pocket Controller (APC) from Middle Things allows you to control the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K/6K remotely from your Blackmagic ATEM switcher. The BMPCC 4K/6K doesn't have the SDI port necessary to connect to SDI-only ATEM switchers, so this ATEM Pocket Controller was designed as a solution. It converts the switcher's SDI program signal into a Bluetooth signal that can be read by the camera. The APC accepts the ATEM switcher's program output via an SDI input. Then it pairs with the BMPCC over Bluetooth using the companion Middle Things iOS app. Then, using the standard ATEM software or the ATEM camera control panel, you can adjust settings such as gain, shutter, iris, white balance, focus, zoom, and some limited primary color correction. The APC can be used with any ATEM switcher except the ATEM Mini and ATEM Mini Pro, which have HDMI connections. The APC also allows you to control select DJI gimbals over an S-Bus connection. Using an optional ATEM Pocket Controller Cable from Middle Things, the APC can be connected to the DJI RS2 or Ronin-S/SC by plugging into the S-Bus port of the DJI Focus Wheel, or it can be connected directly to the Ronin 2. The gimbal's pan, tilt, and roll rotation, as well as speed settings, can be controlled remotely at the same time as the BMPCC using the ATEM Advanced Panel or the Television Studio Panel.
At a few inches less in width than the BMPCC, the APC has a compact form that can easily be integrated into your workflow, and it can be kept up to 10 to 15' from the camera. The APC has an SDI input and an SDI loop output that lets you daisy chain the ATEM's PGM signal to another APC. The APC only supports 3G-SDI signals; if you are switching in a UHD 4K standard (12G-SDI or 6G-SDI), and you don't have any down-converted HD ports on your switcher, you can use an optional Teranex Express to convert the 6G/12G output to 3G-SDI.
